Project title: |
Establishing novel genetic loci for eating disorder-related traits, brachial circumference and sex |
Project summary: |
The main objective of the fellowship proposal is the completion of the work on three large-scale, high-profile collaborative projects that aim to identify robustly replicating genetic loci associated with three phenotypes of interest: brachial circumference, eating disorder-related traits and autosomal differences between males and females. These medically important phenotypes will shed light into biological pathways such as fat deposition and body shape which are strongly linked with risk of cardiometabolic disease; eating disorders and mechanisms possibly linked to miscarriage and parity. These projects incorporate data from the 10001 Dalmatians project, a set of Croatian population-based cohorts with genome-wide association scan data. My proposed visit will involve the analysis of replication data and global analysis, interpretation of results and the drafting of manuscripts for publication. It is essential for me to maintain my lead in these projects and to consolidate my project management, organizational, writing and collaborative relationship management skills, all invaluable for research career development. Also, the proposed work will empower technology and knowledge transfer and help establish stronger links between the University of Split School of Medicine and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, a worldwide centre of excellence in the field of human genetics. |
