Scientific output

A frequent topic of discussion within scientific community is how to measure scientific output in ways that effectively capture scientific impact. The purpose of the following statistics is not to measure scientific impact, but immediate output. Within all UKF programs a total of 91 scientific and technological projects were financed, but for the purpose of this statistics only 48 medium scale projects within the Research Cooperability and Young Researchers Programs that are completed are calculated.

Scientific output of UKF projects was measured by peer-reviewed publications and is presented below:
420 scientific publications include 1 article in 'Journal of the American Chemical Society' (IF 8.585), 1 article in 'Chemical Reviews' (IF 40.197), 3 articles in ‘Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA' (IF 9.5), 1 article in ‘the American Journal of Psychiatry’ (IF 12.5), 1 article in ‘Public Library of Science Pathogens’ (IF 9.709), 1 article in ‘Molecular & Cellular Proteomics’ (IF 8.354), 1 article in 'Nature Communications' (IF 10.015), 1 article in 'Molecular Cell' (IF 15.28), 1 article in 'Nature Cell Biology' (IF 20.76), 1 article and a commentary in 'Science' (IF 29.7), 1 article in 'Nature Reviews Genetics' (IF 32.75) and 3 articles and a commentary in 'Nature' (IF 36.0).

268 articles are published in peer-reviewed publications (of which 230 with IF), 36 books/book chapters and also 116 conference abstracts. The number of stated conference abstracts is definitely higher because not all project leaders included these papers within the project results.

SCIENTIFIC OUTPUT AS MEASURED BY THE NUMBER OF SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS

OVERVIEW OF THE PEER-REVIEW PUBLICATIONS QUALITY MEASURED BY THE IMPACT FACTOR PER EACH RESEARCH AREA:

We have listed the number of articles published in peer-reviewed journals with an Impact Factor (IF) as one of the measures of the relative importance of a journal, individual article or scientist to science and social science literature and research.

1. Natural sciences - These projects published as many as 103 articles in peer-reviewed journals:

Physics – from 34 articles published in peer-reviewed journals 29 are published in journals with IF:
  • 21 articles in journals with IF<3.5
  • 7 in journals with IF 3.5-7.5
  • 1 article in the journal with IF 10.015.

Geoscience – out of  9 articles published in peer-reviewed journals 8 are in the journals with IF:

-6 articles in journals with IF<3.5
-2 articles in journals with IF >3.5

Chemistry – from 29 articles published in peer-reviewed journals 28 are published in journals with IF:
  • 10 articles published in journals with IF<2
  • 12 articles in journals with IF 2 - 4.5
  • 4 articles in journals with IF 4.5 – 6.0
  • 1 in journal with IF 10.677 'Journal of American Chemical Society'
  • 1 article in 'Chemical Reviews' with IF of 41.298.
Biology all 26 articles are published in peer-reviewed journals with IF
  • 16 in journals with IF<5.0
  • 7 articles in journals with IF 5.0-10.0
  • 1 article is published in 'Science' - the commentary (IF 29.7), 1 in 'Nature' - the article and commentary (IF 36.0) and 1 in ‘Nature Reviews Genetics’ (IF 32.75)

2. Technical sciences – out of 51 articles published in peer-reviewed journals by 10 projects, 31 are in journals with IF and 14 of them are from the Chemical engineering field:
  • 11 with IF 1.4-3.5
  • 3 in journals with IF 4.3-6.5
Other projects from the Technical sciences division also published as many as 64 conference abstracts and technical reports.

3. Biomedical sciences - 15 projects produced 107 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 9 books/book chapters. 97 articles of 107 are published in journals with IF
  • 73 articles in journals with IF<4.6
  • 13 articles in journals with IF 5-12.5
  • 7 articles in journals with IF 8-15.28
  • 1 article is published in 'Science' (IF 29.7), 2 in 'Nature' (IF 36.0) and 1 article in  'Nature Cell Biology' with IF 20.76.
Researchers from this field also reported 34 conference abstracts.

4. Biotechnical sciences3 articles are published in peer-reviewed journals with IF

5. Social sciences4 articles are published in peer-reviewed journals with IF
